ummmm i was sold a columbian spotted pleco for 3.99 and i was wondering if anyone has ever heard of one of these fish...and if they have any information

To be honest, 'common names' often don't mean jack.
Some LFSs make up names to make the fish sound more interesting.

Any chance of a decent photo?

no i dont...i tried and put them in awuarium pics tho...

they also had common pleco's ther...this just looks a little bit differnet..but not a whole lot

Well your description sounds like a gibbiceps pleco, also known as a sailfin. A very pretty pleco, and the price sounds fine to me.

The only problem is, if it is a gibby, they grow fast and get to a foot and a half long.

However, I've just done a search on Google and came up with this:

It still looks like a Gibby to me, but it was listed as a Columbian spotted pleco.

Is that like yours?

No, Gibbys have a larger dorsal fin and (imo) more attractive markings.

3.99 for ANY pleco is a great price...here you won't get one for less then 6-7 dollars,even if it is just 2-3 inches...insane

lol you think thats bad? here in aus we pay $40 for a 2-3" common plec. Everything else is bout $80

$40 for a common plec.... ...seriously...man they are a dime a dozen over here...There are some expensive ones lik zebras which can fetch a big price...but commons are not. That suxs~~!
