Diary - Update 06-01-2007 - Almost 6 Months

(off topic) - all issues aside: I just wanted to say that's a really lovely planted betta vase :good:
and probably one of the nicest I've seen. Though to be honest, I would personally keep a single betta in there :fun:

Thanks Bloo,

The Only Reason I made the Planted Vase was because I got Wayyyyyy Too many Plants from Greeline. And decided a Nice Planted Vase would look Lovely In the Window.

+ Now that the summer sales or on Those Huge Vases for Large Silk Plants and Florist Displays are much cheaper. So might get some more Larger Sizes.

I Like Those Massive Oval shaped Vases with Gold Leaf Backgrounds.

They have hatched mid morning and Daddy is being very good and putting them back in the nest.

Ive got another tank set up - just need to add the sponge filter + Newatt Micro heater.

I'll Transfer some crypts and smaller swords into it.

Would it be ok to use a Ladle and Scoop the Nest into the new Tank with the Daddy.

Well, if you're afraid that the dad will eat the fry/eggs because he might from moving him so he might be stressed, you could try cutting up a styrofoam doughnut and put something like a piece of cloth (the kind they use for fish nets) and use an elastic band to make a bottom for the duoghnut. Then, scoop the eggs and fry into the doughnut :p Then, they can't get lost, sink to the bottom and get fungus and stuff. GL.

I would leave the nest and dad in there till the fry are free swimming atleast.

Teeeny Weeeeny Little Black Eyes and Free Swimming - Daddy is still being good pitting them back in the nest if they swim off exploring.

Some are still White and Others have turned a Stripey Color. Most are about 1mm long.

Dad Is feeing now on Mozzies and Hikari Pellets.

:hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: just realised you are in the UK sometimes I read these threads and forget where peeps are....I would be scared to get babies (bettas) we had guppies once and I spent most of my life with a net scooping them out of tank and screaming if I missed one in case it got ate.

:/ Just went back to start of this thread and saw the Dad...I love that planted vase...I have a pond and got lots of weeds/plants in it...might try and establish some plants and grow them...work at a school so get holidays trouble is house is a mess but I would prefer to mess around in garden or with my fish

I am not too worried about them, this is the first time it has happened and if they survive - Bonus (Store Credit).

I have only tried it once and the eggs went all fungusy an stank the room out. That was my Half giant and a Massive Female.

Heres the female he humped - hardly any damage. and she has an oviposter again already.

just counted them up and there are 30.
Did a water change and fed them.
Dad still with them, althought there is alot of conjecture about leaving the Dad in to cull the weaker Fry so you only get good stock from the Fry remaining.

Dad is feeding on Mozzies and Bloodworm.

I have not emptied the Vase out as there may be fry still in it and its gots lots of bloodworm in it, so basting them out when i spot them.

Wow, I bet that was a surprise for you!! Very nice vase too! I hope the babies are okay :D

Indeed, it really is a nice vase, aside from it needing a lid.

Not all bettas jump. I had my first betta (when I knew nearl ynothing about them) in a glass 2 gallon fish bowl for about 2 and a half years with no lid, and he did not jump at all. Even when he was moved to the ten gallon tank, then the 5 gallon tank, then back to his bowl where he died when he was about 4 years old, he still didn't jump at all. So not all do.
