Ive always cut my springer spaniels claws, they only need doing very rarely but i forgot about her dew claws cause there round the back and covered in fur, her foot was bleeding and when i looked her dew claw had grown round and back into her paw, i had to use plyers to cut them they were so tough. She seems ok but keeps licking it so it must be sore. I feel so guilty for forgetting them, she's still waging her tail at me so she must have forgiven me,still feel bad though.

how long have you had her? we were forced by the animal shelter to declaw our cats but not their hind legs. every once in a while (not very often) we clip their nails. dont feel so bad, everyone forgets

It should heal quick now that you have clipped them.
with the longer coat breeds they can easily be missed and because they dont get worn down at all they grow a lot quicker than the rest of the claws.
Most breeds normaly have the dewclaws removed when they are just a few days old although my breed has to keep them

she's 3 and we just had pups with her,she has never growled at anyone and so obedient  , chews mobile phones and mp3 players though  .

Just make sure they don't get infected and make sure to keep a closer eye on them from now on. She and here pups are adorable, do you show her?

no i don't show her, i don't think she would stay still long enough, for a small/medium size dog they have so much energy. I bathed her paw in a salt solution to clean it and put some antiseptic cream on, but i won't take her for a walk for a couple till it heals,,, she'll be gutted she's only been allowed back on walks for a couple of weeks as we couldn't walk her because of the pups, she hates not going out

Aww she's beautiful. Don't feel too bad, at least what happened to my dog didn't happen to you. This happened a few years ago...I usually cut her nails but I was away at school and I guess my family wasn't keeping up with it. Well her nails got kinda long and one of them caught on something and came clean off.

It's the nail on the left:

I can't imagine what that must have felt like, the poor girl! The vet wasn't even sure it would grow back right, but thankfully it has. So yeah that kind of stuff just happens sometimes!

were the dew claws not removed when a pup along with the tail??

we have 2 basenji's (beautiful dogs) and 1 was a rescue he still had his dew claws and one got caught on a fence and got ripped out, poor little mite he was in so much pain, needless to say we had the other one removed. :(

well if the dew claws wernt there they couldn't get torn, this prob wont be the last time this happens unfortunatly

I dunno, I would never dream of cutting my cat's dew claws, just because someone accidentally forgot to clip it (and they weren't the owners of the dog) doesn't mean it's going to happen again. We never cut off our GS's dew claws and she does fine.
