When I got rid of (all of) my guppies..... I kept a few males and the guy taking the rest.... overlooked one fry (which turned out to be a female) when I discovered it some months later.... Soooo..... I decided to put 2 of my males with this one virgin female to start the whole culture all over again....

As it is.... she delivered some 40 fry after the first month and those fry grew up and delivered some 40 fry each and then..... and then..... and then.....

This is where I am currently at.... all stemming from that single (virgin) female and the 2 males.... (these are 2 photos of 2 different ponds outside).... I also have a tank full of Guppies inside the fishroom (where I'm trying to introduce fresh Genes from (purchased) 2 x Yellow males with females from this batch....

Once a week.... I try to catch all the males in Pond B and transfer them to pond A and all the Females in tank A and transfer them to pond B.... to have the Genes seperated.... I'm not very successful at this, but gaining ground....

Wow I remember you posting about you finding the female that's insane howmany you've got now :hyper:

That's really cool. Have you produced any new strands? I think I might start a guppy pond. I live in the Southern US so do you think a pond heater for the winter would keep them warm enough?

Yes!.... I know my Guppies are different (my own strain) as the blue colouring is unique as well as their hardiness..... If you live in an area where your ambient daily temps do no drop below 4 degrees C.... I believe you can start an outside pond, providing that you do so in beginning of summer where they can progressively build up to the winter temps to acclimatise and have heaters available in winter....

I see that if your water temps drop below 8 degrees.... they all gather around the heater and manage to maintain acceptable temps in this way.... I am currently entering the winter phase.... and they are still happy and eating prolifically....

I am currently trying to combine some yellowing (ad hoc) into my current colouration effects.... I have no clues about developing strains..... this is merely a test to see what if??....

I wish I had some blue ones, I would have liked a blue flame-patterned tail.
I started out with some red tails, then got red+orange+black flame pattern trapezoid tail in new generation, then they mated with green females and ended up as green flame pattern tail (no red or orange, just black + green) and two gray endler-lookalikes (out of nowhere) and from that point sterility owned them all, as all of my females never fell pregnant.

It is the result of simple mathematics. An exponential expansion results in amazingly rapid growth in numbers. Well done Ludwig in at least introducing a bit of variety into your system with those yellow fish.
