Definitely Getting A New Cat Soon

Wow - they are both stunning ! And those eyes  could look right into your heart.

Hope all goes well and you can take her home on Saturday.

Best of luck :good:

Didn't get her Saturday, they are going to deliver her next week so they can go ahead and do the home visit on the same day, which is fine with me. I did sign up to volunteer three days next week though, so the drive to the adoption center wasn't for nothing :). I'm going to ask about feeding feral colonies and helping with their TNR program as well next time I meet up with Sheila, the head of the shelter. I need to stop visiting so much or I'm going to want Mia as well . I already do, really, but I'm more of a one-cat person and I'm not sure it would be a good decision to make right now anyway as I may be moving around a bit in the next couple of years (just within town, nothing major), but we'll see. I didn't even see Mia the first two days I visited as she was hiding, but today she sought me out for a tummy rub! She is considered a hard-to-place cat like Diva, as she is also very skittish.

Well, I wanted to say something before, but now that you seem to have considered it..... :D

Skittish cats usually do better went kept with a family member, expecially if they've been through everything together. At the shelter where I'm an adoption councilor, we usually require cats who are nervous or who just seem to need each other be placed in a home together. Most of the time we'll do a two for one adoption when the right people come as an incentive, but usually only tell them this after they've agreed to take both. Helps screen out the ones who want a free cat from those who are doing the right thing. :D It's usually siblings who have bonded with each other, but it can also be cats who have been dropped and been living together for a while, or even cats who have met at the shelter itself. Anytime a cat is better off with a certain companion, we strive to make sure they're kept together.

Mia (missing in action, I take it? :p ) and Diva would probably both be much better off with each other, and would probably take the move a lot better as well.

Just food for thought! :good:

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. They are so difficult to place that Sheila is just glad to have either of them get a home, she actually said in an email yesterday that they probably should have just released all 4 kittens from that group after they were captured with their feral mother for the TNR program, but at the time they thought they were more tame than they are. They sure seem fine to me! :) Their brother was adopted a while ago, but their other sister was so wild she was unadoptable and went to live with Sheila.
Like I said, it's something I'm really going to have to consider because of the present circumstances, with my being a student and all and this year's lease being nearly half the price it will be if I renew it next year because of a special deal (thus necessitating a move or a roommate). It would be really cramped if I were to have to move all the animals into a one-bedroom, so I'd probably go the roomate route, which might still require a move, and would certainly require an understanding roomie!

It's not a good idea to jump into this and take both cats at once, that's for sure, even if it would make the move easier for both. I'm just going to see how Diva works out the first week or two and get a feel for what it would be like to have another cat in the apartment with her (keep in mind that I also have a small dog, two birds, and fish out the wazoo), then we'll see. Mia is really pouring on the charm, though :p

Oh dear, Sheila just offered me a two for one deal
I'm volunteering for two hours tomorrow, I guess I'll visit with Mia some more and think it over....

Without meaning to play Devil's Advocate (and completely understanding your situation) - it really would be better for Diva and Mia to stay together. I think they know what they're doing too *lol*.

Yeah, I know, I'd like to keep them together but it's likely to be at least another year before either of them finds a home if I don't take at least one, much less a home together. We're just gonna have to see how it works out, I would technically be over the limit for pets in my apartment if I took in Mia too, but the entire staff of this place is made up of college students who live here, so most of the rules get ignored :p. The staff member who lives in my building lets his golden retriever out off his leash and doesn't pick up after him, both of which are against their policy, hehe... not to mention the cigarette butts he throws out. My building is on the back of the lot away from the drive, so you can't really see what's going on in it if you're just driving through, which means the staff doesn't care about it

EDIT: Whoops, almost forgot, Diva comes home Monday
