And thats the recommended water change schedule for a stocked tank?

Okay problems ..

OH was trying to be a darling and brought me 2 dwarf gouramis whilst at work.

This is now a fish cycle. Whilst i know this is not the prefered method its the card i have and ill sort it.

Im doing 50% water changes every 2 days .. anything else?

Getting slightly annoyed with the filter.

It keeps coming off the back wall ad floating making wierd noises and throwing out bubbles as it goes!

It's a ferplast bluwave 05. Anybody have any ideas?

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that particular filter, but you could try soaking the suckers in boiling water; that might revitalise them enough to stick. If it keeps spitting out bubbles, you either have a venturi on, air stuck in the filter, or it's too high in the tank.

There's no way of knowing if 50% every two days is enough; you have to be guided by your test kit and the levels of ammonia and nitrite that you see. Your aim should be to do enough water changes that neither of those two gets to above 0.25ppm before you can change again.

Right,

Fish are still alive!

Cutting back to a weekly WC now.

Filter is going back to the shop and being swapped with a Fluval 206 after much argument between me and the store. (Owner is a ****)

He wont let me keep the old filter to run the new one in so im going to have to do a fish cycle all over again!

Daily WC are back!

May I just point out that 2 male gouramis and a Betta is NOT going to work. Unfortunately they are both Anabantoids, therefore the Betta [A.K.A Siamese Fighting Fish] will attack anything that looks like it, so thats Gouramis, Guppies, anything that's too flashy-flashy. I would recommend EITHER:

Option 1:
2 Dwarf gourami,
10 Neon Tetra,
6 Otocinclus Dwarf Catfish,
5 Male Guppies.
-----------------------------
Option 2:
2 Dwarf Gourami,
8 Neon Tetra,
6 Otocinclus Dwarf Catfish,
8 Rummynose Tetra.

Couldn't you buy a new set of media for the filter and return it with that instead? Would save you and your fish a lot of hassle.

#40##!

didnt think of that!

instead i pinched a handful of media from the filter and squirted all the manky water from the sponge into the new filter to give it a boost.

also used some nutrafin cycle solution .. was the best i could do in the circumstances as i didnt think of thr above!

Why are my plants growing what appear to be roots halfway up the stems?
