Can too much dechlorenator (if thats how you spell it) be dangerous for the fish...
when you are doing a water change and if you put a bit more in the water then it says on the tub can it be harmfull for fish ?

No, you would have to overdose somewhere around 10X the suggested amount. I routinely double dose fry tanks, and others if I have any doubts in my sometimes questionable water supply.

I bought a set of measuring spoons for a couple of pounds off of Ebay and use those to measure it out. They are useful for meds too.

Somebody on the forums contacted one of the manufacturers, Seachem I think. Their dechlorinator had been tested to 50x overdose without harming fish. Dr. Hovanec posted that some dechlorinators can slow the growth of nitrifying bacteria, but nobody seems to have really noticed the effect. I double dose routinely and have gotten 3 week fishless cycles without using mature media to start.

I agree with this. Its definately hard to make a strong recommendation either way for the early stages of cycling, because both too little and too much dechlor product could potentially be bad for N-Bac growth. Your report there of a good fast fishless cycle with double doses is a data point that reinforces the idea that being sure to clear out all the chlorine/chloramine could indeed be a big help to the early bacterial populations. On the other hand, perhaps going beyond double-dosing would run into the slow-down problem that Dr Hovanec as alluded to.

Seems like somewhere in the range of slightly above the recommended dosage all the way up to double-dosage would be reasonable with our current annecdotes.
