This is specially for our cool and hardworking mods.

Dear all why not give these tags of NEwbie, fish fanatic blah blah on the basis of the quality of their post and not the quantity.

Say for example some member posted an advice and many people rated it as helpful. This should be the trigger for an upgrade in the rank and not the quantity of posts, in this case people can have more faith on the credibility of the advice.

I may not be the first person to feel this way, many websites and forums have implemented these methods.

However I may also be the one who is whining about a problem but sorry I don`t know anything about software programming or website development, or else would1`ve been more than glad to help.
:good:

Thats a good idea. Is it because you just want to move up quickly?

Having been involved in several forums in the past, the one is automatic, the other is usually fairly easy to set up, but quite a lot of work to maintain, and leaves everyone open to all sorts of accusations.

I'd always hope that people would read the quality of the post, rather than look at how many times they've posted, but I know full well people often don't do that.

Exactly that!!... very few posts go by unread and/or unnoticed by the moderating team..... any particularly "helpful" or "notable" posts are brought to the attention of the rest..... The post count is not considered relevant.... it's all in the quality, relevance and presentation of the post.....

I suggested something similar with a rep point system or similar... but it was frowned upon as 'groups' of friendly people would be repping for anything so the system would get abused, which, tbh, i can see now it has been said.

Quality is subjective, thus impossible to quantify.

At the moment we have 10 moderators who would be considered active, give or take, 10 is an easy number to work with. We have over 72,000 members here, with over 3,110,000 posts. That means 7,200 members for each mod to review, and try to quantify their material. It also means 311,000 posts per mod to look over. If each mod reviewed 10 members per day it would take two years, for existing members alone, not counting members who join in those two years. If each mod reviewed 100 posts per day it would take 3,110 days, or 8 ½ years. Once again, in those 8+ years we would have more posts. You can see what an ongoing nightmare this would become.

A good example of subjective is myself, home from work today with a nasty cold. I’m chugging Nyquil & strong coffee, and am not in the best of moods. My review of a member or post will probably be vastly different from one I may have done 3 days ago, or 3 days from now. At any time it may be way different from a mod like Ludwig, who is one of the most easy going & laid back people I’ve ever known.

You sure wouldn’t want me reviewing and attempting to quantify the quality of material a member posts today, and that member would hope to have Ludwig look over their material, preferably after Lud has an enjoyable weekend. The end result is a system much more unfair than something that is easy to quantify, such as number of posts.

I say we get Stephen Hawkins on the mod team, that would work.

It's a good idea in theory, but hard to implement. I usually don't look at someones post count until I have gotten/given advice, if I do at all. I don't even know what my own post count is most of the time.

What?! you're telling me my post count doesn't grant me god status?!

As above, it is really hard to make some kind of feasible solution that isn't easily abused. If you can think of such a method, go ahead and post it. Heck, I'd copyright it, because I think a lot of forums would like it.

Yeah got the point. Can you add a like button or a thanks button ?
Also can we have some gifts on basis of score or posts or replies, and then we can send the gifts to our friends ? The gifts we got from friends will be shown on our profile. What say. Gifts can be like Betta a chichlid or any fish or tank and filter. We can have an online fish tank :hyper:

Lot of work for you guys but it will be cool and will be a step forward for fishforums.net.

I think you want Facebook, not a Forum.
