Ammonia is the preferred nitrogen source for most plants. The more ammonia that plants use means lower nitrates in the end.

I referred Wills to a section of Walstad's book where she listed some plants that preferred nitrate as the Nitrogen source (there weren't many), but yes, all comes down to balance. I expect you'd need a LOT of plants and minimal livestock
