Hi all, well bad news tonight got home only to find my red tailed shark has died cant see any damage to him, could it be the water or do i have a killer in the tank. i had to guaramis dye last month as well. a list of whats in my tank 3 guaramis, two plecos, 3 angle fish 2 red platyes, 2 swordtails.

Do you happen to know your water readings (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph)? Also have you introduced new fish into the tank within the last month?

Great. Knowing your water readings will really help. Try to get liquid tests done they are much more accurate than the strips.

That's about 30 US gallons, much too small for a red tailed black shark or the angels and if those are common or sailfin plecos, much too small for them as well. Any idea what kind of gourami? Dwarfs are frequently carriers of disease. I'd suspect long term stress from poor water conditions taking down the fish's immune system, but it's impossible to know for sure without test results.
I would get a water test kit yourself, then you know what the water parameters are. You will also understand the nitrogen cycle much better, and understand the chemistry behind what keeps your tank healthy.
With the word of your lfs that your water is fine, i would suggest that there is perhaps some unseen illness in your tank, especially if there are no external signs of injury. Another reason could be that the fish that are dying are being bullied by other members of the tank? Gourami's are particularly prone to bullying, I lost a honey gourami last week, and i'm almost certain it's because it just hadn't been feeding normally, as the surviving one of the pair had been chasing it into a corner almost constantly, and had grown to double it's size! I also had a dwarf gourami that harassed a platy for much of their time together in the tank. These fish can sure hold a grudge! Sit down and watch your tank for a while, see if there are any obvious bully's in the tank.

I'd never have Dwarf Gouramis again; quite apart from the fatal disease they're now prone to, the three I had two years ago had to go back because they killed my nine Cardinals. The Gouramis were herding the Cardinals into a corner, then taking it in turns to pick the Cardinals off one by one.
right i will get my own test kit, the only other gouramis left are two golden type they seemed to have calmned down now they were always attacking each other. could this problem be that my tank is full of these ramshorne snails they are doing my head in at the moment.

The tank is probabily way to small and its stressing them out. Were there any signs of damage to the gourami?

i have to agree if the tanks to small then it can cause one of the most fetal disease... stress which can lead to death
