Hi all i have a 260l aquarium with a variety of fish. It has been set up for around 12 months. I added two new angelfish last week and withon 24 hrs thy were dead. I then noticed that one of te odessa barbs has lost its eyes but os still full colour and feeding fine etc. i then noticed two days ago that my larger of 6 bosemi (sp) rainbowfish had a white mouth, treated the tank with pimafix. Then last night its whole head inc eyes was totally covered. It was dead this morn. I checked all levels and all perfect. Does anyone have any ideas?!

What fish have you got in there? There are a lot of fish known to be nasty little eyebiters!

A few off the top of my head are Paradise fish and a number of loach species, especially Sinobotia specias of loach.

At work we got in a bag of Chinese Zebra Loach, Sinobotia pulchra (i think!) and they seemed so harmless! And yet over night they ate the eyes of over 150 glowlight danios. Not only that but a few jumped tanks and got in the with neon dwarf rainbows and the crossband rasbora and did a fair bit of damage. Costly mistake.Cant stand this species of loach, not one id get in again.

Not only that but we had three 'unknown' loaches and they seemed harmless, but we discovered it was them nipping fins and eyes on the platies, i thought it was the platies doing it to each other, lookd the loaches up and turns out they are a species of sinobotia as well.

we really need to know what else is in the tank to be able to help you here. can you list the species and numbers please?
