Dead Fish

Trying to get a pic but they all blury, my camera isnt great and I dont think its focusing properly. I am confusing myslef so have had another really good look and summerised below

- There are multiple fish (2/3) with almost like a white film to the rear of the fish (behind the rear fin on the tail at the top)
- One of the above fish I can see white "spots" on the white film, and also on the outer extream edges on the tail. This fish also has a bigger more "fluffy" piece of white on the film
- There are a number of other fish also looking slightly pale and that have very slightly red'er gills than i remember, although they were always quite red anyway from when I purchased them, unfortunatly these fish always looked and had a certain sheen on them so its hard to tell if there is a slime growing
- I have approx 8 other fish looking fine, although they are not as active as previously seen
- half of the fish seem to be heavy breating, some of the mountain minnows (the ones that are affected by the white film) also seem to have red lips and gills
- have observed a number of fish flicking against objects, this has been happening more today than any other

Thanks,

Craig

Right I would treat for parasites.
I would get the wormer plus it cover more parasites.
Do you have a parasite med in the cuboard.

unfortunatly not, im low on meds stock to be honest, my first real outbreak of something since i have had the tank setup, what parasite med would you recomend - should I also use pimafix at the same time to sort the fungas/white stuff the fish have?

For now I would get the waterlife med tomorrow, you can use wormer plus with other meds.
Yes you can use pimafix with parasite meds as I checked a while back.

Taken from the wormer plus information.
This product can be mixed with other aquarium products and medications

I'm worreid about the fish that are finding it hard to breath as the med not going to help.
Increase aeration in the tank.
Increase temp to 30.

Sorry for my stupid question im about to ask, is Waterlife and wormer plus two different meds, so should i dose those two meds and pimafix all at the same time?

Thanks, Craig

Yes.
The wormer plus if you ordered it tonight could take a few days to arrive, want to get treating fast so I would get going with the waterlife med for the time being.
Add the pimafix tomorrow when the carbon had chance to remove the meds from the tank.

Looks like your tank has parasites and bacterial infections on top.

That waterlife med covers fungus so I wouldn't bother adding the pimafix for now.

Lovely!

Thanks Wilder, Ill pick up the waterlife med, if for anyreason the lfs (ill be going to maidenhead aquatics as its the only one near) doesnt have it, is there an alternative you would recomend, or is it just any parasite med?.

Will have i have to order wormer plus online? - I have the pimafix so ill start that tomorro with the parasite med after the carbon has had its chance to work

Thanks

Craig

Thanks Wilder, ill get the waterlife protzin first thing tomorrow, sorry im confused, should i still get the parasite med (wormer plus) from the link you gave me above ?

I would its always good to have in stock as it covers alot of parasites.
As the waterlife meds are not that good on parasites like flukes which are quite hard to get rid of.

I think you do.
Uv filters are no good when the parasite on the fish is has to be in the free swimming stage for the uv filter to zap it.

What can I kill with a UV sterilizer?
UV sterilizers will destroy parasites such as Ich during the new born, free swimming life cycle stage.
NOTE: They do not kill or remove the Ich parasites once attached to the fish. UV Sterilizers can be used with other methods to treat Ich. UV Sterilizers will kill free floating algae. It will not kill algae that is stuck to your glass or imbedded in your live rock. It needs to go through the UV sterilizer to be zapped.

Thanks Wilder, could this be why mabe the parasites have not spread to all of my fish, the UV is keeping it from spreading

Don't no much about uv to be honest.
I would of expected more fish to have the whitespots.
When fish produce more slime coat there protecting themselves from bad water quality to parasites.
Think I read some where that it's harder to get rid of parasites with the slime coat build up.
