Dead Fish

Thanks Wilder, I will go and get them tomorrow morning first thing, do you mean treat both at the same time? is it the No9 Interpet anti bacteria one and API Pimafix. Im close to a maidenhead aquatics, do you know if the would stock both?

My temperature is currently running pretty high (78) - should I lower this?

Yes use the pimafix with the bacterial med.
They should stock the meds there common.
Columnaris thrives in warmer temp so I would lower it by two degrees for now, don't want to alter the temp to fast.

Increase aeration as meds reduce 02 in the water, remove black carbon if you use it.

If there any other symtoms please get back to the board.

Hi Wilder,

I have noticed that on some of my fish, they are getting slightly red gills, also some of the fish have quite red mouths and do breath heavily - Any ideas?

Not looking good.
The red gills can be due to poor water quality so check your stats.
Also red inflamed gills can be gill flukes.
Red mouth not sure, heard of erratic red mouth but don't some across it much.
Found some info its bacterial the red mouth.

Signs of gill flukes and skin flukes are.
Flicking and rubbing against ojects.
Laboured breathing, or gasping as the surface of the tank.
Opaque or pale body with excess slime.
Red inflamed gills to bleeding gills, or pale gills with excess mucas on them.
Spitting food out.
Fish losing weight.
Fish swimming in a jerky movment.
Erratic swimming.
Sores on the body of the fish.

Reread your post it look like there might be a parasite involved like skin flukes.
Are the fish flicking and rubbing.

No columnaris is bacterial so the med won't work on parasites.
Flukes cause bacterial infections as in there hooks or suckers they carry a nasty bacteria which enters the fish blood stream when the parasite piierces the skin.
Thats why you have to back up with a bacterial med once you have gotten rid of the flukes.

What would you recomend as the best treatment for this? They are starting to flick against objects, at first it seemed ich was developing but its really in between ich and an all over type fungas/slime, there are some "grains" as such but not as many or as obvious as i thought ich was

So the fish have excess slime on there bodies with grains of salt size spots, is this correct.
There also slime and velvet.
Velvet can look like a dusting of white talc on a fish.

Really sorry Im not great at explaining..

some fish look quite pale, some had a sort of white layer on them, sometimes it seems to look fluffy other times not, but it does look like there are a few "spots" of it on top of the layer itself. The main fish thats affected also has a few spots on the edges of the tail - really small though so its hard to see, the fish is also not very active.

its odd because half the fish look perfectly healthy with no probs, will Interpet No9 and pimafix help all the above

I would do a water change and run some black carbon to remove the meds.
If the fish are flicking and rubbing, and heavy breathing, with the slime sounds like your fish have whitespot if the spots are grains of salt size.

Thanks Wilder, ill do a 50% water change now and put in some new carbon pads - Ill go out and get the meds tomorrow, is there any whitespod med you would recomend?

The problem is now that the parasites have caused bacterial infections.
Need to get rid of the parasite first.
So the whitespots are definately grains of salt size, is important so please answer fast.

I would say they are close to, maybe slighty smaller in size - they are not covering the whole body (and there are not tens and tens of them), there are a few on the tail and mostly near the rear of its body where this while film / covering is. they are on top of this film, there is also a larger looking white object on the side, almost like a piece of bigger fungas.

Hope I am explaining this ok, please dont hesitate to correct me in how im observing or describing things!

Is it possible to load a pic up of the sick fish.
Also is there only one fish with the grains of salt on him.
You don't sound convinced it is whitespot.

So fish have slime on them and fluffy bits.
Heavy breathing.
Red gills.
Flicking and rubbing.
Small spots like grains of salt.

Forget the waterlife med and get this one it covers more parasites.
