Has anyone any ide what killed my corydorus?

Yesterday I noticed what looked like a red spot on it's chest and it's stomach looked swollen. Today the spot has changed to an open wound - like a burn or a blister. There has been no flicking or any other signs of illnes.

I took some pictures but they came out so blurred it's not worth me posting them.

The cory is now dead but the other 3 seem OK. They are in a tank with several L number plecs.

My stats are
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 30

Thanks

My guess is that your Cory may have died of a parasitic infection. At least that is the typical thing that would happen if you saw a red spot that then ended up opening. You cory could had also had Septicemia (not sure of the spelling) which is basically the same thing as you described which is still a parasitic infestation. Keep an eye on your other fish. Just to be safe, and watch close. You don't want to chance anything.

??? Septicaemia is doctor speech for blood poisoning. This is not the same as a parasitic infestation. My guess would be a bacterial infection, leading to septicaemia and dropsy (the swollen stomach). Were the corys' barbels intact, as they are often a starting point for infections? If not, check out the substrate, could there be sharp bits, or areas that collect dirt?
