Hi there gang. I have made some serious changes to my tank over the last month including chucking out my under gravel filter and going with the standard filter setup. All has been very well until 2 weeks ago. I shut my light off every night when I go to bed. One morning when I woke I found a Balla Shark kind of hovering in one place and almost swimming backwards. I'm not quite sure how to explain the way he was acting, all I can say is he was struggling with it. I noticed he was contorted and his tail was smaller and it looked like much of it was missing. I got my water tested right away thinking there was a huge problem, but the water was perfect. I started the 7 day treatment for fin and gill rot but the next day when I woke he was dead.

I checked the other 2 sharks out thoroughly and found no signs of rot. When I woke today however, another Balla was dead And sucked tight to the water intake spout of my filter. I am truly at my wits end. According to my fish guy at the store I don't have a single agressive fish in my tank since I got rid of my 2 big bottum feeders that had the black stripe down their sides(not sure of their name) months ago.

I know this has been a long story for you all to endure but I am so frustrated with losing so many fish I don't know where else to ask...

Please help me out

sorry to hear about your loss. Balas are beautiful fish :-(
how powerful is your new filter?
maybe the water intake is too powerful, and they got sucked in?
you said the first one had a damaged tail.. maybe it broke free, but was soo stressed/damaged that it died the next day :(

did the other one show any sings of damage?

maybe the second one wasnt strong enough to break free from the intake spout, and it died as a result?

Buy your own test kits and test the water yourself, sorry to hear about your Bala's, There is obviously something seriously wrong. Post your test results and then do a big water change and do one every day.

NOOOO NOT THE BALAS :byebye: :byebye: :byebye: :byebye: :byebye:
I had the same thing happen and it killed a bala too (sniff) WHY?
it might of been the current
PS did your balas gasp or have inflamed red gills before the went to bala shark heaven? (Sob) :byebye:
