shall I just leave the sponge in the filter then?? what would you recommend I do now...daily water changes using the api water conditioner or would you just leave the water in the tank and drop in the conditioner?? I bet my water bill is gunna be huge!! Possibly the longest cycle in history here

lol, it's not the longest. Just keep the water clean with water changes and use your API dechlorinator. I'm hoping (and I'm sure you are too!) that you've only had a minor setback and it will right itself in a couple of days

Are you using any extra products like API ammo lock etc because this may intefer with the natural cycling. when i changed my sponge i added a dose of API stress zyme and been using prime

That might be your issue, you're only supposed to add tears to saltwater tanks, as well as some blood and shredded money to stabilize the pH
