Dave's 65 Gallon Tank

soooo.... a Friend of mine droped me a PILE of beautiful red and green crypts.... I don't know what kind they are, but my god are they nice... and there is enough to FILL the middle part of my tank. he said he has been growing them in his tanks for like 20 years. sooooo..... I think I might go ahead and rip out the rotala, and maybe the swords, and stick the crypts in the middle where I was planing on putting them. then I will take the rotalla and stick it where the swords are between the two pieces of wood. maybe put the swords with the crypts, or maybe toss them... they aren't doing that well for me... I already stripped half the leaves off them because of the algae... I know it hasn't been 2 months yet, but I am not really removing any fast growers... just moving them a bit, and adding some slower growers where I wanted them in the first place... the rotala is blowing all around where it is any ways from the filter outlet. soo I have the day off tomorow, and I'll post some pics when I'm done. :)

Sooo... I put the crypts in, removed one of the swords, moved the rest to the middle with the crypts, and filled between the two pieces of wood with the rotala. I think the crypts and the swords look great where they are. its just what I wanted. the rotala still looks silly, but it is only temperary.... soo what ever.

Try to get a trio (2 females: 1 male), so the female doesn't get harrassed the whole time.

sooo last week my potasium Phosphate arrived. soo I started doseing that along with the Potasium Nitrate and the trace that I have been doing from day one.... I went with the 11ml 3x a week as suggested in the pinned EI topic. but.... this seems to have kick started the algae.... oops. sooo I have hair algae and some green algae growing on the glass and other stuff. I figure this is probibly normal, but I think I will go down to 6ml 3x a week and see if it will fix it. I also picked up 10 amano shrimp to take care of whats in there now, and I got my Jebo 809 up and running. I will run it with both filters for a couple weeks, then get rid of the aqua clear one. I also picked up 7 dwarf neon rainbow fish. they were super cheap, and I was really debateing getting them. so I think I am gona NOT get the gouramis, and get these rainbows, and maybe some trifaciatas in a bit as well. Other than that, stuff is just kinda filling in. oh, the snails ate a hole in one of the leaves on my lotus. I have been killing them when ever I see them, but they seem to grow faster than they die. I hear loaches are good at getting rid of them... I was thinking kulii loaches, but I really havn't done any research, so I could be way off on that. any tips would be awesome. thanks

I am sure the rainbowfish will look lovely in your tank. A really good addition :good:

soo lowering the potassium phosphate seems to have helped the algae problem... or maybe its the amano shrimp. I duno, but it seems to have stoped spreading and is slowly disapearing. I am haveing a lot of problems keeping my CO2 stable though. I am pretty sure it is the addition of the new filter. with both running, there is A LOT of water circulation. I turned down the flow on the aqua clear, and turned up the bubble count. it is going like mad now, and it kinda worries me. the drop checker is dark green at best. I am pretty sure I just have to get rid of the old filter to fix the problem, so in an other two weeks, I will remove it and things will get back to normal. I really want to just pull it out now, but I guess flucuating CO2 and a bit of algae is better than a cycle. hmm.
