What is wrong with my poor Danio?

Hi, very sorry you lost your Danio, and sorry no one responded to your post. I don't know what illness caused the loss of your fish, but thought i would write something anyway.
I lost one of my first group a few weeks ago. I have another female now with a stress induced infection after being trapped in a plastic plant. Theese were my first fish and i feel bad about it. Now there are no plastic plants that will do this again.
I do like Danois, they're really fun fish, and will be getting more to acompany my three remaining ones. Great fish, but from my experience they do seem to get their selves into trouble.
Again sorry for your loss, John

Thank you very much for your reply John. :good: I have never received any timely help when I have posted to this section so I will not be posting here anymore. I don't know if people dislike Americans, KISS or me personally.

Adding to your group of Danios should help as they are schooling fish and are happiest in groups of 6 or more. I'm reluctant to get more as I have lost more than one during my time in keeping fish and I suspect the Danios in my area are poor stock. Are you treating your Danio with the infection? Thanks again for the kind words! :good:

So sorry you lost you fish. And I'm sorry you didn't recieve any help from the forum, especially since you were so great in helping me with my questions.

Hi,

I know it's not much, but i've got a danio with the same problem, been like it for about 6 months now but still going strong - over 5 years old as well.

Thanks, it's more than you think! :good:

I would hope the lack of response to your posts is nothing personal, if it was then that's a shame, after all it's the fishes that matter. I do think it may be difficult for anyone without real experience of diagnosis and treatment to offer much help in this section.
Thanks, i would like to get more Danios to make the numbers up, i'm sure they would be happier, and the female seems to be improving with the treatment. Cheers John

Believe me there are more than a few people here with many many years of experience and I seriously doubt none of them have never heard of a curved spine on a fish. I did my own research after being ignored and I was able to find information without any special effort at all. I always try to help people even though I am far from an expert but I may have more knowledge than someone who is new and needs help.

To add to my theory, this is from a very knowledgeable fishkeeper responding to someone other than me in this section within 9 hours of question posted:

"Is the curve in his spine? It is often common with fry that are kept in too small a grow out tank for too long. Livebearers are sometimes born like it, but with Cichlids, the small tank is usually the cause i have found. It won't affect the fish as you say, but just looks terrible."

You have a point, and i know how you feel. My introduction post was read and ignored for two or three days until anyone thought it sociable to reply. Maybe i came across wrong and alienated readers, sometimes written words don't convey enough about the author and their intentions.
I have treated my Danio twice now with anti fungus, and it's looking much better. Hope you and your fishes are doing well. Cheers, John

I did not see nor reply to your introduction post but I have what I think is a good reason. When someone is new here they see a "Welcome to Tropical Fish Forums" section with part of the subtitle stating to introduce yourself. One would think it would be impolite to not introduce yourself if you're new and it almost comes across as mandatory. So you posted. I did when I was new. The reason I did not see your post nor welcome you is unless I spent my life here it is very unlikely for me to see your introduction. Since this forum is so huge and having a "Fish Emergencies" section, the emergency posts are something I look through first as the word "emergency" conveys a sense of urgency to me. When I had my own emergencies I posted there because it is implied it would be treated with urgency and people with knowledge to help. As I found it not to be the case for me I still feel bad for people that post there and get 0 replies so I look for them first. Then, not considering myself new anymore my next section would be "Tropical Discussion" or "Cyprinids etc." as I love Barbs and feel I have some useful experience with them, always looking for posts with 0 replies first. So unless I lived here I can't get to all the posts I want to read and try to help whoever I can. I personally don't see the need for introductions and if the emergency section is not treated as such I don't see a need for it. But, all in all I still love this forum and will try my best to help and continue to learn all I can. I'm glad your Danio is improving! By the way, Welcome to the forum! :hi: and :thanks:
