hi all i currently have 8 leopard danios in my tank. Originaly i had 4 but purchased 4 more today. The tank is cycled, and 2 and a half foot long.

Since ive added them ive fed some blood worms and the fish seem happy and healthy with eachother.

But, there is one female danio that will sit about 1-2cm above the gravel in the middle of the tank for a while. She swims with the other fish but will come to that spot when she is bored with the group runs.

Is this normal behaviour for a danio?

I've got a group of 5 Zebra Danios and while they swim happily as a group, I've got one that toddles off on his/her own 50% of the time. No idea why, he/she has probably spotted something shiney and gone to investigate!!

:hyper:

Hmmm, well it appears to have stopped going there now :S

could there be any other explanation for this behaviour?

lately they often swim around on the bottom for a while. is this normal??

Alannah i have longfin zebra danios in a cold water set up and as active a little fish as they are sometimes they do break off from the group and "chill" on their own, dont know whether this helps.

More worrying to me was that mine have started to fade in colour?!?!, after checking the water chemistry, to no avail I am stumped.... have you experienced anything like this with your danios?

Okay it is indeed a female (alot larger and plumper) - Lets hope this is it then :D They have been swimming at the bottom chase eachotehr about a fair bit.

Fishman3, i cant help you to much unfortunately ive only had 4 for 2 days and the next 4 i got today :p But, that said i did notice some colour come to the fish (maybe im imagining it) after feeding some frozen bloodworms to them :)

Thanks everyone

I am considering adding zebra danios to my tank. Would they be alright with the platies and tetras?

hey umm i am not to sure but i think that it will be ok because they are all the same size but you would need a large tank due to they are schooling fish

zebra danios are the meanest fish in the tank they will kill everything if you put them in your tank

Sumac- do you have any back up to your aligations of danios? :S

I also have 8 danios in my tank and they are fine with all my fish lol. They even eat of my fingers :S

Please dont scare people of any fish without having back up for your words mate

Regards,
Indir

I completely agree with Indir :good: . Danios are very friendly and excitable fish, I keep mine with Neons & Rummy Nose tetras. I think Sumac can only be scared of them as he has nightmares  ???

Cheers
