It's been two weeks since I set up my tank and started cycling with 4, now 3, Tiger Barbs.... the only change has been that my ammonia is at 1.0-1.5, but the nitrites have not started to register when I test the water quality....Is this on track? Needless to report Nitrate is 0. Please Advise....
Thanks JOHN NYC

Hang in there LongNY! Sounds like it's starting!! :D When i cycled my 25 gallon i also did it with fish (found out about the fishless cycling a few weeks too late :X ). In total it took me 6 or 7 weeks, so you still have a little way to go. If you're not already doing it.. try to do daily water changes of 10-15%. This makes the process a little bit longer but really goes a long way to reduce the stress on the fish and increases their chances of survival.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Try to fight the urge to replace him though! Trust me.. you'll be glad you waited

Good luck and let us know about your progress!

Hey Val...thanks for your reply....it helps.... I did also read....to not put additional fish in once the cycle has started...so I'll just hope for the best, perform water changes and continue testing the water quality until it has the readings that are correct for a cycled tank.
