cycling a new tank

im fairly new to fish keeping and currently have one 35 gallon tank set up. i have recently been given another smaller tank 20 gallons and im gonna set it up as either a breeding tank for guppies or something similar. my question is to cycle it more quickly will using its filter, along with my current filter, in the established tank mean the bacteria will form more quickly on the filter sponge therefore meaning less cycling in the new tank???

Actually, you can use the new filter, and run it on the old tank for a few weeks. After that, the second filter will be able to handle loads too.
