Cycled sub straight

Due to a health problem in our house I have to break down my fish tanks I might be able to put a couple back up in the future. Can I keep the sub straight or should I just by new? The canister filter material I will throw away and just replace

I wash out my gravel and then store it in plastic buckets. I have several different colors and sizes of gravel and I have reused it.

The substrate will not have any live bacteria left in it if it is stored for a long time though.

My regrets for the health problem(s) that force you to tear down-

If you rinse the substrate well and allow it to dry...as @essjay points out, the BB will be gone but the substrate will be reusable.
