My beautiful Yellow Guppy male is showing signs of dropsy..... I'm not even going to try..... He's destined for demolition tomorrow.... What a pity.... he was sooooo beautiful.

if your fish has dropsy would it end up spreading to your other fish? sorry to highjack your post when i saw it the question came up in my head

sorry to hear about your fish though :(

This is him, and.... although everybody says Dropsy is contageous..... it is not my experience..... and although some says it is curable.... it is not my experience..... So!... rather than have it suffer through the ordeal..... I will do the deed.

Oh no sorry about your fish. What a horrible decision to have to make. He's such a stunning fish :(

Dropsy is not contagious and is not curable it’s so sad when there’s very little that can be done when a fish gets Dropsy,

Sorry to be a noob here but what's the symptoms of dropsy just so I know?

It is also known as pinecone disease and I think that best describes it.... the fish becomes bloated and the scales protrude like in a pine cone....you will diagnose it immediately when you see it.... it is not pretty.

this same happened to one of my females i had to destroy her too :/

Im sorry for this, and i have a male just like him, they are beautiful arnt they :D

Its a shame you live so far away since i would ship him to you since i dont really want my guppies XD

Dropsy is the description of a symptom; being bloated and having scales raised like a pinecone. It can be caused by a couple of different illnesses; some of which might be contagious. It's not the dropsy that is contagious; but the cause of the dropsy might be. Just the same way as we can get blisters from all sorts of different things (burns, stings, disease, shoes rubbing, hitting oneself on the finger with a hammer by accident).

I've not experienced dropsy being contagious personally. The first couple of fish I had develop dropsy many moons ago I tried to cure; I've never had any success and I don't try now. It looks like such a painful condition in the later stages that I just euthanise them early. Save the poor sucker the pain.

RIP little yellow guppy :(
