Below is my current setup;

Tank.jpg

This is a kind of general topic, but i just want to know if people think im on the right lines of my current set up and if people think im not if they can suggest anything different?

My main worry is that all the plants will die off, but also my filtration system as i really do think the U2 is flawed and doesnt work as good as the fluval 2plus.

I like it :) The plants filling out will improve it even more :good: The plant behind the cave with the white stripes doesn't look aquatic-is it silk?
Can't help with keeping the plants alive-I can even kill java ferns!
What are the problems you've found with the U2? And what size is the tank and what's the stock? I can see a harlequin I think?

Yeah im hoping the plants will bulk out a bit, but ive never really had much look so not holding my hopes out!

The stripey plant - havent got a clue, but it hasnt died yet so all is good haha!

U2, just doesnt seem powerful enough and i clean it every couple of weeks. I also dont like the way you direct the water flow.

Stocking... errr... its a bit mixed :p

1 x Bristlenose
1 x Otto
3 x endlers (newest additions)
3 x rasporas
4 x cardinal tetras
1 x black neon tetra
1 x corydora catfish.

The reason my stocking is so varied is ive never found fish i really like! and as they have died off i wanted to try something different hence why its mixed. But ive got to say, i love my endlers!!!

The long plant on the left, I had one of those and posted a pic on the planted section but noone knew what it was, mine died when I used meds in the tank, but it was doing well before that, if I'm right new leaves should kind of come from inside one of the stems, hard to explain lol, see if you can see any to see what I mean lol.

well at the moment the only plant that has survived is java fern, and cabomba... however as soon as my cabomba is cut down is soon dies off....

im just hoping none of my plants die..

at the moment im looking into some kind of ferts if anyone has sugestions, but not co2, thats kind of too technical for me!

you have some really easy care plants in there, you may find though that the Sword at the front on the left will get brown patches on it leaves, they do need to be fed, so i would buy a good fertiliser. Also the plant at the back left looks non aquatic, but we would need a better pic to make sure.

edit, buy yourself some TPN plus.

I have two fluval u4's so I'm guessing the u2's are the same but smaller.

If so you wanna turn your u2 onto the bubbly setting and it will improve your plants. Voice of experience :good:

Problem with that is then i have to have my filter higher in the tank for the venturi to work, so instead ive dropped it down and instead run a bubble disc inbetween the 2 white stones which i turn on when i get home from work and off at night

Ah I see, well should give you some help then. I'm stuck with using the bubble setting otherwise the current is too strong for my cichlids. Just blows them around like rapids

yeah even with the bubble setting too unless I point them at the back of the tank. I have 2, one at each end of a rio 180 facing each other. Even the spray bars are too much no matter where they are pointing.
