k, heres a question for ya...

had a betta in a 1 gal bowl.. all's well, changing water, feeding etc... BUT, his fins have started curling (yes, curling...knarling up, like matted hair) at the edges. the big question is.... drum roll please.... WHY??

Skye

UPDATE : tranfered him to a 10 gal w/ fliter and heater 2 weeks ago and slowly but surely they are miraculously unravelling. however... i still wanna know why that happened, and HOW what i did cured him... anyone??

the one i saved with fin rot has the same thing going on with its smaller fins... they look like there mangled.... i figured it was the finrot. i think the heated 10 g was a good idea...... did you use the stuff from petsmart (bettafix) you sugested i try?? if so let me know becus i think that may have cured it for you :D let me know

hey, ya know... i did! and i noticed it had helped even before i transfered him. good call... forgot i used it. yes... pick some up. its so worth it! ( i mean, nothing is fool proof, but ive had not thing but good from that little bottle of magic potion!!)

however... im still slightly baffled... hmmmm... oh well.

curly fins are usually a sign of bad water quality. can take a while to get rid of. sometimes they never go away.

just for the record...bettaFIX is evil.

glad to hear bettafix is evil.... i purcased melafix insted since they had no betafix. shold i just treat with salt or shold i add this stuff..... sry bout jacking the post but i have the same problem.

my ctm's spikes hey a bit curly or bent sometimes, its from bad water and userally a couple of good cleanings and a weak dose of melafix does the job

GD, you lost the CT avatar?!? and i was always lookin at it to show ppl what a crown tail looks like! :D melafix seems to work good and fast... teh curl is almost gone and im just now doing a second dose.... teh stuff smelled verry strong so i used alot less than it says on the bottle. 6ml to 10G and it seems to be working i also used about 1tsp to 10g salt agan on the weekside... also i eyeballed some stresscoat..... think thats too much?

yes thats good, melafix is way to strong for bettas so u gotta dilute it a bit, thats all bettafix is really -_- and yes i got rid of my betta avy, i change it every couple months :D

Why do some of you keep saying Melafix is too strong for bettas?? Then some say to use bettafix, because it's weaker. If you read the instructions, you use about 10 times as much Bettafix as you do Melafix, so you use the same. Melafix is not too strong for bettas. I wish someone would just once post some research that proves this nonsense.
