Curious....

Is saran wrap that expensive? And if you have holes in the lid, just put packing tape over the holes, inside and out so the fish doesn't stick if it jumps. I don't think that would cost that much...and craft canvas is 60 cents a sheet...

My dad had a few holes in the lid of his cover around his filters and I cut up some plastic canvas and covered the holes. His lid is now a mini fort knox and I just used the scraps from a 28 cent piece of plastic canvas. They sell the plastic canvas in a double sheet size and it would cover a 10 gallon tank easy. 78 cents. I would definately look into in and cover your live bearer tank. It might not be the prettiest, but it would work until you could get a better cover.

Karah's mommy, I do the same thing! I use the scraps of craft canvas to cover everything. It might look bad, but when you think about it, what is less attractive, canvas on your lid, or dried fishies on your floor?

See the thing is everyday im gonna have to take it off and it will stick to itself and have to straighten it out and everything. Plus the one dollar i would pay for the suran rap is the dollar less that i will have toward getting a real lid. My tank is somewhere alot of people can see and suran rap or plastic mess on the top of the tank is not very good looking. In that case i would have put a reptile lid i have in the garage on it. No fish has jumped to date so i dont worry abot it that much like i have to go to the store right now!

Well, does anyone in your family have a pair of pantyhoes and a rubber band? Or a coffee filter? These are usually in a house already. Or packaging tape, if you lay out a few strips, stuck together, then lay strips on top of them, sticky side down, cut out a circle, and you will have a thin shet of plastic, punch holes in it, lay it over your bowl and tape it down. These are reuseable, and you only need to replace the tape during water changes, because the food can be slid into the holes.

Well, an empty tank with crunchy fish will look bad too.
