I leave it on.

AshleyT - did you Blanch the slices first? Either boil them or put them in the microwave for a bit. This should also sink them.

I will try the boil / microwave method then leave to cool next time i try. Thanks

Is the cucumber for a plec? I'm not familiar with any other tropical fish that enjoy feeding on it.....maybe Malawi's?

My ottos love it! As well as my kuhlis, platys, and corys. Mind you, I've not discovered anything that platys won't eat!

It's not a good idea to put a metal spoon in your tank!

why?? i use a stainless steel spoon all the time eather that or a lead fishing weight i just thread the fishing line through a piece of cucumber.

Cucumber has very little nutrition, try some courgette/zucchini instead.
I blanche it first as they prefer it when it's soft, I put it in in the evening & take what's left out in the morning.
I weigh mine down with a fork with no ill effects

my otos love the brocolli stem munching away happily, didnt touch courgette last time so i suppose its a learning curb
