Here's a picture of the RES I recently "rescued" from a lady who had him in a shoebox-sized plastic box for the last 3 years.
I recently got some turtle shell cream to rub on his shell, as it is not in the best shape. His skin is peeling right now, too.
Anyway, he eats from my hand all the time now, the little beggar! I just love him!

They are great, really lovely to look at too.

Mine were like 50p pieces when i got them, that was Nov 2005....they are huge now and still growing.

The yellow belly is about 7" and the map is about 5"

You`ll do fine, i havent had any problems looking after mine but i guess they are all different.

Enjoy him!!

My map is called "dude", that was linked to Nemo too!! The yellow is called squirt..he was small..doesnt really fit now though!

Cute names!
I'm hoping he'll do better (maybe really grow) now that he's in a better tank. It's only a 30g, but I plan on upgrading to a 50 within a year, and then he can go out in my goldfish pond if he outgrows that.
Like I said, he's about 3, 3 1/2 yrs old and only about 4" long. Not sure what their normal growth rate is, but surely it should be faster than that.
Either way, I'm sure how he is now is better for him than how he was being kept, so I feel fairly good about that.
Do you have pix of your turtles?
