Crab Id Please

both crabs live on land, not in the water. given a natural environment, both these crabs are estuary dwellers. foraging at the waters edge at low tide, sleeping buried in the sand as the tide comes in.

I had no idea they were mainly land-based. I always thought they only came out to rest.

Thanks for mentioning that. I'm thinking of setting up a crab tank and totally changes the layout.

ay... you people are confused about fiddler crabs and red claw crab

fiddler needs brackish water

a red crab would do just fine without brackish but they do need oxygen

so they need land

No not really, nobody is getting mixed up between anything :good:.
Both crabs ideally need brackish water and access to air (not oxygen, everything needs oxygen but it's dissolved in the water) :).
Red claw crabs can survive in hard alkaline freshwater for a while, but it greatly reduces their lifespan.
I would imagine the same for the fiddlers.
