Couple Question About First Tank...

Everything finished out well. I got a BN Pleco, and my friend gave me his last fish, because he had fish but his algae eater died and the tank overran with algae and killed all but this one... Does anyone know what kind of fish this is?

Looks like its probably a dwarf gourami.
 
BTW, algae doesn't kill fish.  More than likely the issue was ammonia in the tank, which can encourage algae growth.

I don't really know the details on what happened, but he had the tank for a year and a half to two years with no problems, so I'm not sure. Thanks for the identification, that seems to be right!
