My betta tank is 3 gals. I saw a mini filter in pets at home for £10.99. I didn't get it cos i wasn't sure if i was going to put some more fish in the tank but i think it might look nice with some cories or plecos or something in there, maybe even some other pretty fish? he only gets on with swordtails though!lol.
Is that a good price for a filter? The one i have now was just sold to me as a package with a tank, gravel, plants etc and a few fish (which i picked up a couple of weeks later) In all i think that cost me £50 which was quite good i think!! :D If you smile politely in these shops you usually get a discount ;) lol

Sounds like a decent price but then I don't really have anything to compare it with. My friend's fluval that she got for her betta was £15 I think.

Hey,

Just looked on that site and the only one i could find was £11.99, ill see whether the one i saw today was any good when i go back tomorrow. If not ill try the other shop near me thats really good - can be quite expensive but ill see if i can get another deal ;) lol

I want some more fish to put with my betta!! i love buying fish and got no more room in my 10 gal :( lol

Jess, give Andy Green at Green Line Plants a call. He'll sort you out with the plants that you want. He's helpful, cheap and the plants are good quality.
Like mentioned before go for some Swords. Try Echinodorus Bleheri (paniculatus) for the back, Ludwigia Mullertii for one corner and Limnophilia Sessiliflora for in front of the filter. They will look great trust me. You only need a couple of Swords and five each of the others. Should come in at under £5.

Their mail order by the way ;)

Hey Link,

Thanks, ill give him a call tomorrow! If you're sure it will look ok?! :) I always worry about having too many plants!!lol But i guess it does look kind of bare at the moment!

Thanks! :)

Jess

Yeah, they'll look great. They're well easy to grow. Plants tend to look best when planted in groups. Check my tank out here's the Link :D

Oh yeah. They won't look much when you get them. They'll arrive in a sealed bag packed carefully in a box. They will be labled.
Give them a week or two and your tank will look even better.
If you fertilize them as well all your plants will grow even better ;)

Most of my plants come from Green Line :)

Echinodorus Bleheri (paniculatus) - left-hand side
Echinodorus palaefolius var. latifolius - far right corner behind upright wood
Spathiphyllum wallisii - middle & left

My favourite is the Echinodorus palaefolius var. latifolius, it's easy to look after and has big leaves, strong stem and good roots.

I only have one concern with those plants with my tank... Wont they be too big?! I know you can cut them back but they look as though if i cut them back as much as i needed to they'd just be a load of stems!! that wouldnt look so good...lol

Im probably wrong of course! :D

Jess

P.S. I LOVE your tank Link!!!! :D Its huge too... i have no room for a big tank at the moment but i have a 120 gall to set up when i have room! :D No way id be able to get it to look like yours though!!!!lol

Yeah you would ;)

Just takes a bit of thought and some time looking through plant books. Pick all the plants you like then find out how tall they grow and how much light they need. Dot red plants in groups here and there to contrast against the green plants. Also do the same with leaf types. Plan it out on paper using circles to show the species of plants in their groups. Use one 'specimen' plant like a Sword or Lotus lilly just off centre to use as a centre piece. (My tank has E.Cordifolius doing that job. Off centre to the right.)
Once they are all growing you'll be laughing. You can grow shade loving plants like Anubias Spp under taller plants. Just dont make things semetrical. (spelling?)
Loads of plants have failed in that tank. I've probably lost more than I've grown but now I've found what I can grow so I stick to them.

I had the tank before the house. It was delivered to my parents and then had to be moved here when we got the house. It took four men to lift it and it had to go round the back and through the patio doors cause it wont fit through a door.
It my dream tank :p
