I was in LFS some Rams took my fancy asked the guy if they would be ok in my community tank he said yep just have to add buffer. Are these hardy fish and would the buffer affect any of my other fish or would it be ok for them (harlequin, dwarf gourami, swordtail, neon rainbow) . He didn't tell me much more so didn't bring any home label said they are best in pairs and grow to 2", would have liked 2 but thought I would ask here first as they are £13 each. If I did go for these (I will await any suggestions or advice) how often do you add buffer and what exactly is it. Thanks :good:

£13 seems quite expensive - or maybe my lfs is cheap...

maybe look somewhere else first..

Get them if you can soften and acidify the water (if needed) by using a RO (reverse osmosis) unit. I dont like buffers as they can go wrong and arent really good to rely on. Search the forum or web and ull get lots of info about RO units.

i'm not sure on the compatibilty of rams with gouramis, both can be quite fiesty and would be of similar size, what size is your tank?

a pH of 7.2 shouldn't be a problem if the rams have been bred in that water.

i agree £13 seems a bit steep though.

i have my ram with one of my groumis and they do fine as long as you have enough plant coverage so that if they do pick on each other one can go get cover away from the other fish. Mine do fine together so i must be doing something right!
