does anyone have a rough idea of how much it costs to run a pond over a year? i dont expect exact numbers but just a rough guess, the reason i ask is because i rent my house and the pond outside belongs to the landlord and i wonder if he should be paying the cost of running it. the pond is about 7' by 5' and 3' deep and bowl shaped so not the same depth all round. any answers would be gratefully accepted. thankyou.

Do you have any idea on the electircal loads? What wattage the:

Pump, heater and anything else running is etc? And also do you know how much you pay for per Kw Unit?

I worked it out for a tank in this thread will be the same principle.

you'd really need to have a look at what type of kit he is running on the pond to be anywhere near accurate on this, i.e. some people run the smallest bit of kit on a pond while others go the full distance, I mean is there a seperate UV steriliser or a built in UV clarifier in the filter system? Also does the pump run 24/7 and is there just one?

an average pump for example could use anywhere from 25W - 75W of electric (hazard a guess that optimum pump for that volume to be around 45W-50W)

average UV could be anywhere from 8W to 20W

So using this site based on a price of 11p per KW and using the highest values from above (75W for pump and 20W for UV) and assuming he runs it 24/7 then you could be paying upto £90 per year.

Although realistically unless the guy is very into fish/ponds i doubt he will be using the biggest and best products so going on a UV value of about 15W and lower rating pump of about 45W that still would cost near to £57 per year

thanks for the replies. its a very basic pond with a pump and filter that run all day, every day. i wouldnt know the wattage of things but going on your answers i guess its not costing me too much, was thinking if it ran into hundreds would be worth asking him to pay it. i will see if i can find out the wattage and do some calculations see what i come up with.
