Corydoras Aenus - Do Fry Move While Absorbing Yolk Sac?

Hi Frank. How do you clean the bare bottom tank with the camel hair paintbrush without hurting the miniscule fry? Thanks, Karen.
I can assure you, if you are very careful, you won't hurt a single one. I never have and I really do a thorough job. It's not a perfect world. If a few die so that many may live, that's acceptable. Remember, in nature, they say that 1 in 100 survive to adulthood. I can assure you, if you are careful and observant you won't hurt them. - Frank

Hi Frank & anyone else who wants to chime in,

Okay, great. Now, if you'll bear with my questions, what do you think of keeping the divider in my established tank, but removing the gravel to a bare bottom on that side? I'd move them to another tank later.

Also, does it matter how deep the water is? I've got a fairly tall 20 gallon.

Thanks, Karen

Hi Karen. I was not trying to get you do do things my way, I was just telling you how I do it. Since, by nature, I rarely listen to anyone else, I never try to disuade peeps from their regimen - I just point out alternatives.

Not sure about a divider. It doesn't take much room for a wiggler to get under that. Your concept is feasible, though.

That tank is deep and they do like to swim to the surface, especially to hang out among the floating plants, if you have them. I don't think any healthy fry would have a problem with the depth. - Frank

Actually, Frank. Maroxy is a Mardel product and doesn't kill beneficial bacteria. Also an anti fungal isn't an anti bacterial unless it is both (as some anti fungals are.) I don't need to use any meds with the net and with my nuetral ph, and the net has lots of food, etc., remnants in it--much like your sponge remnants. I do skip feedings alot with the well used net, as they get lots of nutrients from it, much like your sponge.

There is no doubt that we are indeed fortunate to have some of the leading Cory breeders on this forum to learn from. :hey:

I don't mean to infer that using the net to hatch the eggs and raise the fry to a size that is ready to navigate the parents' tank is a better way. It's just less work for me, and I am only doing small individual spawns at a time. I don't have the space or time for 320 or even 100 tanks. As it is I have 13 +/- with about 600 usg and that takes more of my time than I actually should spare.

Chas. is sending me some C. gossei and C. simulatus breeders as he is installing a new system. Wish I could install a new system. Sorry, esquirette, for chatting off subject.

Hi. I have seen the product, but am not familiar with it.

Well, again, I never try to say that my way is better or someone elses way is wrong. Just simply what works for me. I have tried every technique I have been taught. Kept some in my repertoire, discarded the rest. Stll trying new things and losing old habits. A day that I don't learn something new about my fish is not a good day. I'm fortunate to have many hours per day to enjoy my fish, but only because I have refined my system. Yes, the true secret is developing a system that works in relation to the time you have to devote, your health, your goal - and your dreams, I guess. :hyper:

I am looking for some C. simulatus breeders. If you hear of any others, please keep me in mind. TYVM. - Frank

Yes I learned from you about squeezing the sponge which caused me to deduce information on the net residues. I have some sponge filters and a ten usg that I would like to set up as a grow out tank. Room is the issue, and I have never used a sponge filter so I have to spend time putting it together. I also have some canister filters. I have had them about 6 months and they just sit there waiting for me to take the time to spend a day on the floor figuring them out and setting them up. Sigh :look:

I sent you a pm

You can put a sponge filter on the intake of hob filter and it will work the same. Just remember to sew up the hole on the bottom so the fry can't get sucked in there. That is how my fry tank is done. It is working great for me & is very easy to take care of. :good:
