I have 8 little habrosus in a new tank and I've just done a half water change for them.

Mostly they seem ok (although one is very pale and we've no idea why! All water params and behaviour are normal, any ideas?!) although I counted them afterwards and one was missing, some close inspection later and one was buried in the sand, under one of the pebbles in there! Do corys bury themselves? I don't know how he got under there, but now I'm worried that they're all going to get trapped!

I looked at your older thread that showed pictures of your tank, and saw the pebbles you refereed to. I don't think a C. habrosus would bury itself under them, but it could be that one thought of them as a small caves and became trapped. Or, perhaps the water pressure entering the tank was too great when you did your water change. These are very small fish, and if they are battered about by rough water they might have been injured or killed, and washed under the stones. This might be the problem with the pale one too.

BTW, did you check the water parameters before or after your water change? I'm asking this since your tank is relatively new and you did do a rather large water change.

How do the others look?

Hi Inchworm, thanks for replying

I don't think it would have been the water pressure as i used the gravel vac and a mug, but you never know! I'll keep more of an eye next time! Pale one was pale before the water change and still is. All the others are fine and no problem at all. I was wondering if it was possibly the light on them and that one happens to be more sensitive to it? I'll be buying more plants this weekend anyway, so maybe that will solve the problem!

I don't think the problem would have to do with too much light, unless your lighting fixture is generating too much heat. This can happen with the smaller tanks, especially if they have incandescent bulbs in them.
