Cory Eggs...first Time!

Hi Hels :)

I see you are online, so I thought I'd ask if your corys have spawned again? It would be nice if you have some good news for us. :D

Hi!

I'm afraid i've got good and bed news :/

The good news is that one morning last week i woke up to find 4 lone eggs on the side of the tank so i moved then into the plastic breeding net Inchworm recomanded, i managed to find one with (so-called) inbuilt airation - basicly attach airpump into the side and and air flows through tunnels into the seperate compartments (hope im kinda making sense)....appart from a little bit of a struggle with the net everything seemed to go okay but the bad news is that they never hatched!! i'm guessing they didnt have enough airflow so next time (hopefully) im planning on doing it the old fashioned way and just puting the actual airstone in the net...can anyone tell me how would i be able to tell if they had become fungused?? also i went and bought some liquid fry food for egg laying fry...it says to add it as soon as the eggs are laid ...is that right??

hi hels
you can tell if the eggs have got fungus on them as they go white & fluffy looking. think thats the best way to describe it lol.
as for feeding them the liquid fry i think its best to wait a day as the fry will still have their egg yolks attached to them & will feed of the for the first 24 hours.
hope this helps & good luck with it :D :D

Hi Hels :)

What brand of fry food is giving you instructions to use it before they are hatched? I think it might be something that will encourage the growth of microscopic bacteria that will actually be the food for the fry. That's one of the things that will happen with the LiquiFry I use, but the directions don't mention it.

As the eggs mature they will darken somewhat and become more firm. If an egg has fungus it will stand out by it's appearance and you will know it immediately. Don't worry if there are only a few of them since these were probably eggs that are defective or infertile. All batches have a few. In most cases it's fine to leave them alone because the eggs hatch before it can spread and cause harm. :D
