Hi everyone,

I add just a touch of aquarium salt in all my tanks and haven't added it to my guppy tank since I put my cories in. Is aquarium salt good and/or beneficial for them?

Thanks.

Hi GuppyGoddess :)

It's best to avoid adding salt to a tank with corys in it. They originate in fresh water and have no way of eliminating it from their systems ones it is absorbed. This could result in shortened lifespans for them.

An exception to this rule is doing a short salt bath if they have fungus develping on a wound. This is effective to clean it up and the short amount of time they are exposed to the salted water will not result in their absorbing much of it.
