maybe this is my warped way of thinking but, as I am going away its time again to set up my auto top off however this time I will need to add daily a food for corals/clam, probably the best way to do this is via dosing pump

I was just wondering if you could add the food to the fresh RO water container that my top off sytem uses so that it adds the food in with the water when it tops off, my tank uses 2 ltr per day which would mean that i would have to add correct amount of food per 2 ltr and keep a flow going in the container.

This seems fairly logical but cant believe it would work having said that I cant think of any reason it wouldnt work.

your thoughts would be appreciated

I love the idea in theory however I believe the introduction of food to topoff water in a clear container without circulation and exposure to light to cultivate micro organisms witch could lead to contamination of the tank. On the other hand this introduction of micro organisms could be a good thing, however without any research (data) to support I cannot say definitely either way.

So sum up I don’t know but I wouldn’t chance it.

how long are you goin away for? i have no worries about leaving my tank for 3/4 days, if it is just corals and a clam they should be fine for longer...

It sounds like it would make a good culture medium. They are not cheap but I think an auto feeder would be safer. SH

was an intersting thought on my part, best option would always be a dedicated dosing pump which I already knew, however I couldnt see the draw back providing that there was circulation and the RO container was kept in the dark or covered, wasnt something I was going to risk just couldnt see why it wouldnt work
im away for 7 days which is to long really to leave the corals and clam unfed so am arranging someone to come in a few times and feed for me.
