Hi Folks,
I have been posting elsewhere on this forum about my nitrate issue (20ppm constantly). Other than that I have been adding to the system and overall been having great success since moving to marine fish keeping 1 year ago. Since the below issue, my coral is now growing at a good pace, my original 6 fish are still alive and doing well.
My biggest problem was about four months ago when I tried to get a new protein skimmer, I had purchased a compact TMC v2 600 skimmer, it almost caused a system crash, it flooded the tank in bubbles. According to the manual it said that there may be some so i left it a few days, when it did not get any better, I took it back. Then i got it replaced, I ran it for a week and then released that it was not pulling any waste. Overal the issue of skimming not working went on for about a month before I had a skimmer working properly again. During this time bubble algae broke out, the sand and rock was covered in slime, two newly added fish when I got the new skimmer died, several turbo snails and crabs and coral perished. I eventually plucked up the corage to get a new skimmer, which was a normal (not compact version) TMC v2 600 which was much much better.
I will try and get some better pics soon, this is how my tank looks now:
