connecting two tanks with a pvc pipeway

i cant believe im the only one on here to think of this, i dont plan to do it BUT i do got the plans in my head if you want to, anyway i wanted to make pvc pipe(pretty big, big enough for all your fish to swim comfortably threw)make the pvc pipe connect two(or more) tanks together

kinda like the pic(1st pic) in this thread but instead of it coming back to this tank it goes to another tank...http://fish.orbust.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=31174

in most cases itd go out the top of the tank, that is unless you want to cut holes in your tanks(yeah right)

also you guys know you can make a take out of a rubbermaid container? it works just like a tank except you cant see threw plastic(great for feeder fish, or whatnot)
i swear to god i was thinkin on that like 3 days ago!!!!! that is so cool

Also a water bridge accomodates the tanks being moved at a later date. Two tanks connected by a glass pipe below the water line is not that great an idea.... it would always be the weak point.

Well, I'm the owner of the afore mentioned thread:
http://fish.orbust.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=31174

Where I had the loop of vinal tube connecting one tank to itself. I have decided to go ahead and connect two tanks (2 x 30G, to make a single 60G).

The first step is procuring the materials. I have 5' of clear 6" PVC arriving on monday. I have a bulkhead in the mail, as well as a vacuum pump. I'm taking a slightly different approach to fill the tube.

I saw the fill-and-flip method as an unecessary amount of work, and also quite a potential mess. Instead I have decided to drill a hole in my pvc (big enough for a 1/2" bulkhead). I'm connecting the bulkhead to a 1/2" X 1" extender, and the extender to a 1/2" shutoff. Then the shutoff will be connected to a 1/2" to 1/4" reducer, which will be connected, by tubing, to my vacuum pump. I've calculated that it will take a negative pressure of approx 1-2" of mercury to fill the tube, and the vacuum can create -27" so I should be more than set. The materials are in the mail, and I should have something working within a week. Wish me luck :)

sorry guys, u wernt the first to think about it

already been done by my favorite lfs :p tunnel tank
thats on thier website

dd, that's pretty sweet. I love to see stuff like that! This is a slightly different application. I'm hoping that my implementation will be more reuseable, and portable. Hopefully I'll be able to connect any two tanks within minutes. Thanks for the link!!

pleasure myenigmaself,

btw any progress on the fry u found?

Unfortunately the fry has dissapeared. I was out of town for a few days last week and when I came back the fry was gone. I found a dead dragonfly in the tank, so I'm thinking the dragonfly got him and drown in the process. Kind of a bummer.

wouldent it be kind of cool to have a water birdge that goes all around your room.... it would be a little fish adventure

Hello. Newbie here. Just wanted to say that I was digging around the internet for something to connect my tanks together and found this site. It is for a product called the aqua bridge. I don't know if there are any other products out there like this. Just a good alternative to trying to build one yourself.
