Conditioners And Meds

Nutrafin Aquaplus, because I got a 2 litre bottle quite cheap, before that I used Tetra something or other

For medication, I have pimafix and melafix but I don't particularly rate either, for real medication I now use Waterlife stuff, like Protozin and Myxazin :good: Though eSha2000 is pretty good with fungus. I've also got some INterpet medication, but you have to be sure to mix it with warm enough water or it is useless, hence I stick with Waterlife now.

Water conditioners - I've always found the Tetra Aquasafe to be good.
Medication - I've had the most success with the SeraMed products.

hi

I've never used any meds. Touch wood i'll never have too!
i use Tetra Aquasafe water conditioner

Does anyone know of something that would make my water stats lower? Im in the uk

For a conditioner I think "Prime" made by Seachem is by far the best. In the long run it is actually the cheapest too, because it much more potent than the others. Just a little bit goes a very long way. It also removes ammonia in case you ever have an ammonia spike.

Luckily I've never had to use any meds either *once again knock on wood* but I keep a bottle of Melafix and some aquarium salt on hand in case I ever need it.

forget Tetra Aqua Safe unless you dont mind wasting money, its a good product but the cost is often prohibitive, even if you buy big bottles, SEACHEM PRIME is the way forward, i did a load of research on what conditioner "does what" and how much it costs over a 1- year period, Aqua Safe versus Prime, no contest

I done a search on the SEACHEM PRIME, its really cheap and figured out i would only need to add 0.6ml a time as i have a 30 litre tank. At the moment i use interpet fresh start and use 5ml a time.
Seems like good value for money :good: and only costs about £2 more compaired to interpet

yes, it can be a pain in that if you are doing small water changes you need to use TINY amounts, dont be tempted to use too much, its a very concentrated solution, BUT its not particularly dangerous in overdose apparently and it is supposed to be used at higher strengths if you need to detoxify nitrite or have very high ammonia levels, its all explained on the bottle.

With this, can you only do it to the total amount of new water you put in? Or as the total amount of the tank?

the idea is that you dose ONLY for the new water going in, i am looking at the bottle now, therefore if you are putting in 20 litres of water as part of a water change, you would only need 0.5 ml of the Seachem Prime (although getting that small dose is tricky and i would say 1-2 ml wouldnt be a problem)

If someone has just one small tank it might be best to stick with the more mainstream conditioners (just for ease of dosing), but for larger or more regular water changes i would definitly recommend PRIME, its also one of the best anyway (not just in value), i had a good link comparing all the "conditioners" but cant find it now.

If your tank had a nitrite or ammonia problem, then you can follow the guidelines and dose the WHOLE tank with it.

If you speak to anyone who REALLY knows about the science of water conditioners (i.e. dealing with ammonia, chlorine and chloramine as a package) they would probably reccomend SEACHEM PRIME

thats interesting, as with the interpet one you can dose it for the total litre of the tank...you can even dose every day if u like with out putting new water in.

Doing the dose wouldnt be a problem as i have a pipit = 1 ml, i would just put 2 drops in. But it may be tricky it you can only dose the total amount you are putting in so that would only be 15litres

Hope that makes sence
