Complete Noobie Exploring Unknown Territories

2 yellow tail damsels dead today :-(

looks like i will have to start over again...

when it comes to restocking think i might go down a different route..

any suggestions people..

p.s im moving rooms in my house so i am thinking once i am sure white spot has completely been removed io will be cleaning the tank out and cleaning the crap out of it then moving the tank to another room so i shall restock in a while.. will leave it as it is as the cost of the fishes has put me off..

It's disheartening isn't it when you lose fish - but you will bounce back :good:

Got any thought about stocking?

:fish:

in total i have lost
1 clown
2 yellowtailed damsels
1 mandarin goby
1 flame back angel
1 sunfaced damsel
1 engineer goby
1 bangai cardinal

total: £110 worth

:-(

restocking wise i think i will wait for a while so this white spot to pass.. i have another clown thats on the edge...

i was thinking of stocking with just maybe 2 feature fishes.. 2 clowns and maybe one goby and THATS IT
in terms of feature fishes i was thinking maybe a tang while it is small or maybe a nice angel fish with it..

so maybe a tang n angel fish..
pair of clowns
goby

and CUC... i will eventually get a larger tank and will get a tang while they are small.. would love a 6 foot tank..

note to self: never have any salt water fish

looks good though

Superman this may sound a little harsh, but you only set the tank up on 4th july, a week - 2 weeks for cycle and another week for fish, means that you added 13 fish in approx 6 weeks. That for a marine tank is extremely quick stocking. I am not surprised that white spot struck to be honest.

If you are adamant you want to keep marine tanks, you need to slow down a little bit, allow the lr to mature and catch up bacteria level wise before adding the next fish. I would have added that amount of stock over a 6 month period at least.

Really sorry you lost them, its never nice. Its also good that you are going to leave the tank a while before starting to restock, but do so slowly, allow the bacteria to catch up and be patient, very patient.

yeh i know...

lesson learned the expensive way...

although i have noticed some nice small mushrooms growning on the live rock and some weird thing that i noticed the other day when i was rock watching (thats pretty much all i can do at the mo) is a weird thing popping out of the rock and opening some kind of fan.. then it would retract and dissapear again.. any ideas what that could be.. sorry i dont have a pic but its too small to capture...

new fish will not be for at least a month so will try n update when something new happens..

wow sorry about the fish loss :(

Good to let the tank sit for awhile. WS needs at least 8 weeks to cycle itself out so best to let it sit fishless for at least that long.

are the shrimps and CUC crew completely immune to WS...

Thanks for the pump.. nice doing business with you..

Hello

thought i would give a quick update on how my tank is doing.. i currently have 2 coral catfishes.. one completely dissapeared and when i mean disapeared i mean vanished in thin air.. one day it was there then next gone.. no signs of it.. no left overs.. havent got a clue what happend.. could be the reef lobster i have in there.. but god knows..

anyone stocking wise i havent done anything.. i have 2 coral catfishes.. 1 rabbit fish, 1 chalk bass, 1 randals goby and a pair of clowns.. i did have 1 large clown but i brought a tiny one to keep the other company...

clean up crew i have 4 snails, about 7 hermits and 1 mithrax crab.. water has been spot on and no problems what so ever,, i will leave the tank as it is..

the mojano thing has grown quite big and i have to admit i quite like the look of it.. also on one of the rocks there are 3 mushroom things growin.. they seem to have tiny little spikes on the outside of them.. i will try to get a pic for ID... other then that i may get a few more mithrax crabs to control hair algae..

found your thread very interesting mate. I'm thinking of doing the same and learnt more from your thread than I have over last few days!

Your loss will be my gain as I am going to take things very slowly when I start mine up but the I now have a base plan to work from which is your tank

Good luck with it and keep the updates updated!!

glad i helped...i think the main thing i learnt from this was to be patient.... i just got too excited and brought loads of fishes n then it just went pants up and ended up losing expensive stock.. i will be giving the tank a massive clean up on the weekend to remove alot of algae that i have.. then will have a move round with the rocks. will upload a few more pics to the thread..

what tank do you have btw.
