Hi all,

Over the past year of lockdown I have toyed with the idea of starting my own tropical aquarium. I decided a week ago to stop trying to talk myself out of it and bought myself a nice tank online. It is being delivered tomorrow, which coincides nicely with my 31st birthday!

I really like the look of a 'planted tank', I like the natural feel it gives and it must be beneficial to the fish I suppose. So I spent a fair amount of money on live plants and other 'necessary' bits and pieces. I couldn't keep a dandelion alive, so let's hope I have a lot more luck with aquatic plants.

Anyway, I look forward to being part of this forum.

Hi I'm new to this too. Haven't got any fish yet but I'm close to having my cycle complete. Really looking forward to stocking my tank.
I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun setting up and planting your tank.
Best of luck

Hey fellow newbie!

Ah nice, have you got a photo of your tank? What kind of cycle did you do? What stock will you go for?

Hi.. yea it's the marina vue 87. Biggest I could get for the space available.
I've gone for dragon rock and to my regret fake plants lol. I was just trying to keep things simple to begin with.
Going to add plants as I get more confident and experienced.
I'm thinking of some kind of danios, loads of lovely ones to choose from. Shrimp and some kind of bottom feeders.

Corys are great for clean up crews!

Sounds awesome!

Are aquatic plants difficult to keep?

Yes! I’ve seen Danios, they are a really nice fish. Super active too from what I’ve read.

I think some are easier than others. It was just the addition of something else to keep alive that made me go for fake ones to begin with.

I done the fish food method and seachem stability. Takes forever. Wish I'd bought pure ammonia instead.
