Just incase anyone was wondering if the fish they have or the fish they want are compatable, then check out this link :good:

This link is only to be taken as a rough guide to get you started. For more specific information on individual fish, you should post the question in the relevant section of this forum. Where there is an incredible amount of knowledge and experience you can call upon. It is always wise to research your compatability question well and to tap as many resources as posible.

I think you will find this needs treating with a certain amount of caution. Some of the more dubious couplings seem to be the following:

mollies compatible with discus- mollies need v hard alkaline water, often brackish, while discus require soft water

bettas with danios- I have seen the results and they were not pretty!

bettas with tetras- which tetras? some, like lemon tetras and serpas, are notorious fin-nippers

corys with goldfish- which corys? some like cooler temperatures, others don't

killifish with virtually everything- they fail to mention that only certain killifish are suitable community fish at all

IMO you would be much better off consulting a good aqarium book (or why not a good forum) about individual species, rather than whole families, like on this website

Yea it has its blemishes but overall I'd say its a good thing to post so long as its always noted that it should be used with caution!

Thanks for the replies, I will edit the post with a disclaimer.

I think the main problem is that it deals with some fish by species (swordtails, platies) and lumps others together in big groups. Now there is a much greater difference between a bucktooth tetra (basically a miniature piranha) and a neon tetra than there is between a swordtail and a platy.

True I agree. If only I had the time I would do the research and create a relational database :S would'nt that make a great post for pinning?
Maybe when I finish my degree i will have a go :)
