Dwarf neon rainbows are OK in softish water but not as soft as yours, I'm afraid.

I’ve been looking around and I’ve made a list of the fish I like the look of.

I’m still deciding on my Centrepiece fish but here is the tetras I like:
Neon Tetras
Black Neon Tetras
Penguin Tetras - I’ve kept them before
Silver Tip Tetras
X-ray tetras
Glowlight Tetras

bottom feeders I’m stuck between:
Pygmy Cory’s
Pepper Cory’s
Kuhli Loaches
Also thinking about dwarf suckers which I’ve also kept before but I’m not sure.

If you mean otocinclus, remember to wait until the tank has grown some algae if you decide on them.

All the tetras are OK for your tank, but not all of them at the same time. Depending on which other fish you go for, you could have large shoals of two of them. Shoaling fish always behave more naturally if kept in larger numbers.

Yeah I mean Otocinclus :)
I was thinking maybe 10 of one type of tetra, but I can’t decide which ones I want

I know, so many fish.... Decisions, decisions

I feel your pain. Now that my rice fish are down to just 5, I want another shoaling fish for my main tank, but I just cannot decide what :)

I was warned off silver tips as apparently they can get a bit nippy with the sort of fish people want as centre piece fish.

I’m still really not sure but how does this sound:

1 male dwarf gourami
10 - 12 neon tetras
6- 8 peppered cory’s

Do you think I could get better use out of the tank or is that reasonable enough ?

I prefer the look of pearl gourami’s but if they’re more comfortable in groups then I think even a trio would be a push in my tank, could you keep a single male pearl though or would they still be best housed with females ?

60 cm length is not enough for pearl gouramis I'm afraid.

A dwarf gourami would be OK for the size of the tank, but they do come with health issues. Many of the dwarfs bred in farms in the far eats have dwarf gourami disease, which is incurable and fish usually dies within a few months. If you really want one, check out all the fish in the same tank and if any of them look a bit iffy, go somewhere else.

Or get a pair of honey gouramis :)

I believe that is what my first dwarf gourami died of  i will wait until I have bigger tanks again to get the pearls :) since I’m struggling to find a centrepeice, what about just another school of tetras ? I’m not sure what though

If you've had a gourami die of dwarf gourami disease, I would not get any other gouramis for this tank.

There are lots of other shoaling fish to choose from. Harlequin rasboras would make a nice contrast to neons, for example.

Ok, I’ll have another look around :)

I’ve looked back and my dwarf gourami was in my other 30gallon which i broke whilst cleaning lol - I originally bought the one I want to use now as an emergency fry grow out. So I’ll have a look at the honey gourami :)
