Hey guys,

A lot has ben going on with my tanks recently, so I thought I'd update you a bit through the medium of pictures!

So, firstly... I added 4 young discus to this tank (thought to be 2 red and 2 brilliant turquoise)...

Here's some pics of the discus themselves, the day after they were brought home...

Then, yesterday I noticed that the angels were being nasty to the discus. It seemed weird as I have had these angels since they were tiny and they are always really sweet. Then I realised why...

 Wasn't expecting that!! I bought them both in September of last year and never thought I would have been lucky enough to get a male and a female. They have never been jiggy before.

Anyway, I had to think fast and do some moving around to save the discus from getting hassled and the angels from being stressed. So, I move the aggressive female krib into the 160l where she is doing well (hopefully she can stay there) and the glass cats to the 320l. I had a problem with the discus because they are not suitable for either of my big tanks (potentially breeding chromidoliapia finleyi in the 320l and tiger barbs in the 160l), so for now I moved them into Missy's 40l tank as they are only small until I know what's happening with the angels...

Bad pic, but you get the idea of the discus' size...

Well, so that's what's been going on in the world of Cheese Specialist!!

:hyper: :S :hyper:

Oh, and I also re-arranged my 160l to be planted. All from plants I bought for the cube you saw above! Hardly seems to matter now but...

Thanks for your comments, DOLORES and cometcattle. :)

The krib fry are doing great! They are still in the 78l with Dad but sadly there are a lot fewer of them. I don't know why but now there's only about 4. :(

At least I have some though. :)

Looking good cheese, those discus really are small! A lot smaller than I thought from the other pics. :)

Good luck with the angels.

Glad you took my suggestion and brought some Discus Cheese, but obviously no one was expecting that! Is that their first spawn, are the eggs still there, how many have gone white? Best of luck with your new Discus and hopefully your new Angels!! :)

Hey!

It is their first spawn. The eggs are still there, been at least one day now. Not sure when they were laid as I wasn't expecting it. Daisy (the white one with the yellow crown), is still fanning them and stays near them at all times.

Around 15 of the eggs have changed colour, there are loads the haven't though as in the photo above (was taken today).

I do not expect to have fry because I have been reading that it takes angels upwards of 5 times to get it right if at all. It's probably happen because I do not expect it!

Dunno what is with my fish recently, they are all at it!! I suppose it's a good sign of their health and happiness (?).

:fish: Dana :fish:

I just wondered because my last pair of Angels spawned regularly every two weeks but the eggs never hatched and after two or three days they would eat them as they were all going white because for some reason the male didn't fertilize them, which is the case with quite a few captive breed pairs now days. Good luck. :)

So going white/cream is not a good thing? Hmmmm, I should really find out more about it. The net hasn't been very good for information in this case to be honest but I will have a look around.

I just hope the discus will be ok in the 40l for a little while until I know the situation with the angels. They seem happy enough and are eating well, I have also been able to put the tempature up quite high for them.

I'm sure the Discus will be fine. That's a nice little home you've made for them.....but if you do happen to have a male and a female Angel then I would expect them to do this every 10 days from now on which means you will either need to seperate them or get THEM their own breeding tank  Probably not what you need to hear right now huh?? If they are anything like mine then they will just become more aggressive with each spawn.......mine are even starting to try and kill each other after the spawning has taken place.

If after 2 or 3 days most of them are still that tan color then I would think they've been fertilized! ;)

Good Luck and nice lookin'little baby Discus

great disucs cheese!

can't wait to see more pics

congrats on the angels too

I was actually looking at discus exactly like yours today at the fish store, then I saw $120 CAD!! Cheapest small discus went for $40. I was wondering, what's the general compatibility of discus? Other than having to keep them with other high temp fish?
