We have a 40 gal aquarium in which we have 6 tiger barbs and 2 tiger loaches (all small at the moment), 1 red tail shark, dinosaur eel, and a talking catfish. We want to combine another tank with this one, it has 7 neons (small), 1 black skirt tetra, sucker fish, cherry barb, and pangio oblonga loache (I believe that is what it is called). Would it be possible to combine these two tanks without anyone getting eaten? The bigger tank is heavily planted with a lot of hiding spaces. We could move to a bigger tank if needed. I know the dinosaur eel will eat anything it can get into its mouth, but it is a small one right now. The catfish spends most to the day hiding in a log.

I don't have time or I would do it- but try hitting Google and looking up the various fish, it should list compatibility.

A rather nice rule of thumb- if one of the bigger fish can get his mouth around a littler one, he'll probably eat him, no matter how peaceful he may be.

Generally speaking you shouldn't mix anything that's agressive (or in this case semi-agressive) with community fish, so I'd say adding the neons would be a bad idea, I unfortunatly learnt the hard way that Tiger barbs seem to enjoy the taste of neon tetra flesh... Yummy...

With 6 tiger barbs you should be OK, they will act as a group and shouldnt attack..I had no problems doing that with mine, but my neons were large.

they nipped things like the guppies but didnt kill anything. 3 died though, and they did attack my gourami, so I gave them to a mate.

I would say they should be OK, but keep an eye on them.

i have 4 tiger barbs with 6neon tetras and 4 flame tetras and they have never touched them i even have them in with guppies and they get along like 2 peas in a pod!!
