hello, are there any cichlids (peaceful, not bigger than 10cm, can live in 23C) that can be SAFELY kept with zebra danios? and also small bottom feeders?

all replies would be greatly apppreciated
:D

i recently got to dwarf cichilids laetacara curviceps, to go in my comunity
tank, also i have zebra danios, had them now just over 2 weeks,
there fine with all my other fish i like the cichilids so was pleased when
my lfs told me these would be ok , theres a pic of one i posted in members pics,
hope this helps, :)

Any corry/pleco/catfish should be ok will be ok with danios, i think will also be ok with cichlids, but u had better check with some1 who knows more about them ;)

assuming you're not breeding these fish they should work well w/cories,algea eaters and loaches.

that's what 70 degs f??
i don't think so,these are tropical fish.you should definately get a heater,i keep all my tank temp at 80 to 82degs f(27 c)i believe this helps prevent ich and the fish seem less stressed.

yes i agree, i use to keep my temp at around 76,f , had an out break of ich
treated it, then on the advice of my lfs i raised the temp to 80f
since then which is a while ago now, things have been fine, i'm not saying the ich was caused by the lower temp, but the fish do seem to be doing better at 80f,

your fish get ich a couple of ways
1-stress
2-temp fluctuation (sp??)
and proly a few more ways but those 2 YOU can control,so i keep my temps at or close to 80degs and believe it or not i havn't had an ich outbreak in over 3 yrs.
i also treat my tanks w/aq salt about once a month, just one dose then next sunday (every sunday)do another water change to dilute the salty water :D

how much aq salt per gallon do you use ??

i use about 1 level tbls per 5 gallons of water,i add the salt to a bowl of water mix it up and let it sit as i do a water change then as i fill i pour in the bowl of salt water slowly. :D

Alright I ain't got much time this morning so I will make this fast. Now when I get home , grab a chair cause I will add a mini book here. LOLOL

The ich most likely came from the water temp. This time of year alot of hobbiest experience this problem. Warm water fish normally show signs of ich in cooloer wheather, Cold water fish are prone in warmer wheather.
There are a few ways to help this.
1) Keep a heater handy, Not meaning run all year round but in the cooloer months all tanks to have heaters. Especially if they are going to be subject to the chill.
2) Be sure to treat fish as soon as problem starts. In the cooler wheather ich can get oiut of control. The fish is already having a hard time due to the chilly water his boby has slowed down. Brething is slower, movement is limited, add this to ich and a stressed fish can and may not make it. NOT all cases are the same though. This is generaly when a tank gets really cold. I have a few here at home that are running at about 69 and no problems.

Good medication for ich. Maricide by Mardel Labs. This will tinge the water but can be removed after treatment is complete with a water change and new filter media. There are ALOT of meds for ich but few IMO really nip the problem first time around.
When the wheather gets cold I normaly dose up my tanks as a percaution and it normaly helps. So far this year 0 cases of ich. Knock on wood.... darn that was my head i knocked on.....

Very important , when using a heater be sure not to install a heater that is way over rated because this can cook the fish.... ( boiled cichlids.... yum, yum )
If you do not already have a heater invest in the better ones. The cheap ones sometimes can fail and not shut off properly. Not all cheap heaters are junk though.

O gosh gonna be late for work..... argggggggggg wanted to continue. I will get right back where I left off after work.
Then I will get into the species of cory cats / and a few suggested cichlids that can go together.

sorry not as long as expected...... Maggie.............................

Danny, the majority of people on this forum are in the 'cold' UK, so every tank has a heater on all the time m8 ;)

I saw a few were from UK but thabkjs for the heads up. daaaaaaaaaaa.
But other than the heater issue there were others explained. Just a heater isn't enough in color wheather keep in mind. Still there are drops in presure which cause the drops and rises in temps.
Over ther years I have found that EVERY winter there is a poss. of ich croping up. Thats why I keep the meds on hand and in high quantities to assure that IF there is a bad out break the meds are there and enough to treat all 102 tanks if needed.
