Hi everyone,

My problem is that I have found a 4 litre fish bowl, and was wondering if there is any coldwater fish, invertebrate or amphibian that can be kept in such a small area.

The bowl has no heater so will have to be cold water, and has no filter, so will need a low waste animal.

Please help, many thanx.

If a 4L "bowl" is all you have room for, you could go with a few (2-3) Cherry Shrimp and a small bunch of live Anacharis planted in the gravel. Cherry shrimp can live, thrive and breed at room temps down into the low 70's.

If the room where you are keeping it is kept at a consistent temperature of around 76F-80F, you could also go with a Betta but you would have to do 25% PWC's (partial water changes) every day to be sure that the water quality stays good for the fish. Some people do weekly 100% water changes but I find that stresses the fish too much by drastically changing their water parameters too much, too fast. With the daily PWC's, all you would have to do is pour a 1L bottle of dechlored tap water into the bowl every day and let it overflow into your sink. Then pour off another 2" off the top. Once a week, or more often if needed (you will know when you pour the 1L in), you should use a gravel siphon to get the fish waste and missed food out of the gravel. It would be better if you could get a 2.5G - 5G filtered and heated tank for the Betta but a 4L is much better than many people are keeping them in.

A betta needs at LEAST one gallon, 4 litres is no where near enough, i dont even think its enough for shrimp or snails, perhaps just fill it with live fish food -_-

Even though it's over 1 US gallon  Which is the 'standard unit' on the forum?

Yes, the majority of people here use US gallons when it comes to fish stocking. Personally i think at least 2gallons would be better for a betta, but technically apparently 1gallon is acceptable for a single betta, 4 litres= 1.06 US gallons.

Maybe two or three small pearlscales they are great little fish. You would have to do a pwc maybe once a week and use a gravel syphon to clear up their waste :good:

No way your going to be able to put any fish in the bowl i think people are trying to say a 4l bowl is far too small for fish perhaps you mught want to look into something toward the likes of triops etc but if you did go ahead and bought some fish you would need a filter for sue and also they would probably die anyway for not enough space :good:

If you live in England, go to your nearest Wilko's and pick up an 11 litre (around 3 Gallon) tank for £4.99.
Includes lid and is cheap!

Dont put any fish in that bowl.

Fantailman youve a lot to research before making posts like that.
