Fish at the store will have been there only a few days, maybe weeks at most. This is not time enough for them to become acclimatised to the water. They would be more acclimatised to the water in which they were bred, but the store will not know where they were bred as they will get them from a wholesaler who probably imported them.I will get my fish from my LFS though who uses the same water I do, so the fish should be adapted.

Even then, unless the fish have been commercially bred for countless generations, they will be healthier in water similar to that in which they evolved.
So rather than assume they'll be OK in the same water as the store, take some tap water to the store and ask them to test it for GH.

Poecilia "guppy" reticulata or Poecilia "endler" wingei never nip, but you have to keep only males or your tank will be crowded including all inherent problems.
Cherry barb IS a barb. Barbs are known for nipping fins. Does best at 24°C/75-76°F even if can bear a little colder and hotter.Cherry barbs? Are they ok?
